Trip Info

Aikodake has the pyramid shape of an Alpine mountain and going from 180m to 1235m in less than 4 hours then it may feel as though you are going up an Alpine mountain. This trek is for those in good health and fitness as there are a few ropes ascents/descents along the way. The descent can be demanding on the knees. The summit offers spectacular views of the central mountain range of Yakushima as well as views of Tanegashima and the Kyushu mainland in the distance. Aikodake is a pilgrim mountain and there is small shrine at the summit to honor the island deities. The tradition of the pilgrimage dates from around the 13th century.
