Trip Info

Upper Mustang Trek is a stimulating restricted area trekking route in Nepal. It lies on the northwest of the Annapurna region in the forbidden kingdom of Lo in the Upper Mustang. The Upper Mustang valleys are dotted with the Tibetan Buddhists’ settlements, which is opened with the northern edge of the Kagbeni. After a long time mysterious residual, the permission for trekking in Upper Mustang was granted in 1992 AD.

After the cultural sightseeing in Kathmandu, you drive/fly to Pokhara and again fly to Jomsom, the start point of the trekking route in Upper Mustang. Merging the Jomsom and Kagbeni, the journey passes various enticing Tibetan Buddhist valleys, antique monasteries, Chhortens and whitewashed villages on the way. In the locality, barley, buckwheat and other crops are usually cultivated around the trail. The trail is dusty, windy and prevailed with the soft soils. The mountain vistas of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri and the vicinity energize you to head further into the stone walled city in Lo Manthang. It is a cultural melting point, surrounded by the abundant Buddhist inheritance, mainly of the Nygmapa sect. Guru Padma sanbhava spread Buddhism around this area. The Kingdom of Lo remained anonymous to the world. The world renowned Tiji festival has promoted to the cultural trekking in Upper Mustang.
