Upper Mustang is a very popular destination of Nepal, known as the place of god. This is clearly seen through various ancient monuments. It is believed that this holy land used to have many gods and goddess and many of the natural holy places which are believed to be the creation of god remain. Upper Mustang is full of live culture, with all the rituals and activities of Tibetan Buddhism. There are many natural and man made caves, and stunning red, white, gray & orange cliffs which have become attractions of Upper Mustang. Mustang has been opened to the foreigners recently. Mustang is regarded as the forbidden kingdom.
There are big Monasteries in each and every village, still practicing daily rituals. The communities mostly follow the Shakyapa, Gelupkpa and Ningmapa sect of Tinetan Buddhism. Great Lamas keep coming to teach and perform rituals like sand Mandala worshiping and Mahankala puja. Three guardian deities protected the Mustang land, as well as the ruined chortens, different paintings, ancient script and daily lifestyle of the Lobas people.
While on the trek, you will come across many stunning red, white and orange cliffs and hills, highly secret monasteries, chortens, ancient natural man made caves, and different paintings of the Kingship of Mustangi King, still in great honor. Apple orchids are commonly cultivated in most of the villages of Upper Mustang. The villages also grow potatoes, barley and buckwheat. They also raise animals like sheep, goat, yak and the mustang horse.
You will have great views of the Annapurna massif, Dhaulagiri, and Manaslu, visible in southern skyline in the first part of trek.
