Tijuca is a good patch of Atlantic Forest and it is only 25 minutes from most hotels in Rio. Although it is surrounded by 6 million people, this urban park has an impressive list of 220 species of birds including some rarities and several Brazilian or regional endemics.
Green-headed tanagers, red-necked tanagers, channel-billed toucans, maroon-bellied parakeets and plain parakeets are the common birds at this trip.
Short drives, easy walks and spectacular views of Rio de Janeiro with stops for pictures are part of the tour. This bird watching trip starts at 6:30 am at your hotel and finishes around 1:30 pm. This trip can be combined with an afternoon birding at Botanical gardens.
