The Vatican City is the heart of the Roman Catholic Church. Regardless of your faith, the priceless art and treasures, and the magnificent but almost overpowering architecture will astound you. The tour starts with a visit to the Vatican Museum which contains some of the greatest art and archaeological collections in the world. It’s hard not to be overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude and beauty of the buildings and the priceless art and sculptures they contain. You will also visit the Sistine Chapel. It is located in the official residence of the Pope within the Vatican City and has been in use for over 500 years. Its walls and ceiling are all frescoed by some of the greatest artists of the Renaissance period. The immense ceiling, and the ‘Last Judgement’ are some of the most famous of Michelangelo’s works. Lastly you will visit the St. Peter’s Basilica which is the ‘mother church’ of the Catholic religion. It has the largest interior of any Christian church in the world and can hold 60,000 people. St. Peter’s Basilica is simply amazing and is not to be missed.
