Once upon a time in The Sicilian Kingdom, a certain nobleman was seriously wounded by an amorous arrow of Cupid and he decided to conquer his Muse: that was Bernardo Cabrera who fell in love with a gorgeous Sicilian princess. A successful and powerful man under the protection of the Spanish Crown lost his head for a young and delicate creature, he acted as Othello, kidnapped his beloved and imprisoned his ‘dolce princess’ in a beautiful Castle. The Castle was the home for five generations to the Baron Arezzo de Spuches family, keeping their secrets and enigmas alive. The main facade with the grand Venetian Gothic loggia has a modest entrance with five noble family crests mounted there. The simple atmosphere creates the sense of mystical serenity: entrance arches, fabulous windows, interestingly furnished rooms with awkward Masonic symbols. The greatest rooms are the Mirror Or Ball Room and the Armory and Family Crest Room where the walls are bearing the noble family crests of nearly all Sicilian families. Through a hidden door, you pass into the immense park of pleasure and surprises: the enormous rubber trees offering shade from the intense heat in the summer month, Jasmine bushes, rosemary, lavender, prickly pears, capers, oranges, lemons, Laurel, artificial grottoes, a labyrinth, a small chapel with a monk’s joke, Mediterranean plants, stone seats, a chapel, a coffee-house… A seductive romantic place of the Unknown Sicily.
