Trip Info

A traditional overnight backcountry experience with the convenience of arriving via snowcat, so you can spend more time doing what you came to do: skiing or riding in the backcountry, instead of spending an entire day getting there. The snowcat and yurt concept was developed here on the East Side of the Sierra to provide a safe and affordable overnight backcountry experience in some of the wildest terrain left in California.

The yurt is equipped with an Envirolet waterless self-contained composting toilet system, pellet fuel stove, 8 bunk beds with pads, a large family-style table, and a propane dual burner cook stove. The kitchen is stocked with a few basics like a pot for melting snow, washtubs, and a few pots and pans. The toilet is conveniently located close to the Yurt and protected from the elements. the yurt is a “dry camp.” All visitors will be expected to be self-contained hauling water in or melting snow.

High Sierra Snowcat is owned and operated by passionate, experienced backcountry skiers to ensure your safetyIn cooperation with the Virginia Lakes Pack Outfit, we operate under a special use permit issued by Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest.
