A traditional overnight backcountry experience with the convenience of arriving via snowcat, so you can spend more time doing what you came to do: skiing or riding in the backcountry, instead of spending an entire day getting there. The snowcat and yurt concept was developed here on the East Side of the Sierra to provide a safe and affordable overnight backcountry experience in some of the wildest terrain left in California.
The yurt is equipped with an Envirolet waterless self-contained composting toilet system, pellet fuel stove, 8 bunk beds with pads, a large family-style table, and a propane dual burner cook stove. The kitchen is stocked with a few basics like a pot for melting snow, washtubs, and a few pots and pans. The toilet is conveniently located close to the Yurt and protected from the elements. the yurt is a “dry camp.” All visitors will be expected to be self-contained hauling water in or melting snow.

The “ski in ski out” Hut and Snowcat concept was developed from the passion of skiing and to establish safe and affordable overnight hut lodging on the “East Side”. For many years the world over, mountain huts have sheltered backcountry travelers such as skiers and mountaineers. In Europe, hundreds of huts hang from mountainsides, and many have been in use for over a century. Likewise, mountain huts are a noble tradition in Canada and the northeast United States.
Founded in 2012 High Sierra Snowcat has been working diligently with the Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest to establish a Special Use Permit for commercial operation. Mission Provide a welcome alternative to the traditional ski resort, by providing backcountry ski enthusiast access to remote high sierra skiing, over-night backcountry accommodations, safe transportation, and exceptional service without the lift lines and tracked up powder.
