This trip is specially designed for people who love nature. We will travel into north of Sichuan province in China, in the Minshan mountain range, where a number of nature reserves are located. Tangjiahe Reserve is one of them that is known to host many different species of wildlife including Panda bears. Further north, we will head into Tibetan area in Sichuan province. Also the Tibetan culture and amazing natural landscapes immerse. After your wild trip in Sichuan, come back to Chengdu to enjoy the relaxed life this city presents.
Day 1 Arrive in Chengdu
After your arrival, your guide and the driver will meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel. Next We will have a leisure walk in at People’s Park in downtown area where you can watch the locals doing Taichi and admire the beautiful gardens. We will then go nearby to Kuanzhai Alley, which is one of the top three historic preserve districts in Chengdu. A popular Sichuanese dinner will be arranged in a local restaurant.
Day 2 Chengdu Panda Base & Sanxingdui Museum
In the morning we drive about 30 minutes to the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base in Chengdu, and we will spend whole morning visiting the adorable giant “Black and White” Pandas.
After our panda tour, we will drive further north to Sanxingdui Archeological Museum, and in the afternoon we will have a tour of the museum to learn about ancient Shu (ancient name of Sichuan) culture.
Day 3 Chengdu to Tangjiahe Nature Reserve
Today it will be a long driving journey for us. Our destination is Tangjiahe Nature Reserve, a comprehensive nature reserve with giant pandas and their habitats under major protection. It is regarded as “China’s Yellow Stone Park”. It is located in Qingchuan county, Guangyuan city, about 300km away from Chengdu, covering an area of 40,000 hectares.
It was established in 1978 for protecting wild animals and forests, and it was upgraded as the national class nature reserve in 1986. It is classified by the WWF as a Class A nature reserve. It has the reputation of “Natural Gene Stores“, “Home of Life” and Green Pearl of Minshan Mountain Range.
We will drive about 6 hours to Tangjiahe Nature Reserve, en route we will stop to visit Qingxi old town.
Day 4 Tangjiahe Nature Reserve
Today we will have a walking tour all day in the reserve to look for our animal neighbors. There are so many types of wildlife, such as: Sichuan Tankin, Tufted Deer, golden pheasant,etc. If we are lucky enough, we will have a chance to get up close and see them.
Day 5 Tangjiahe to Jiuzhai Valley
Nearby Tangjiahe Reserve there are some local villages, which used to be strategic point in the ancient Shu Kingdom. We will spend some time walking around the village.
After that we will drive about six hours to Jiuzhai Valley, en route visiting Baima Tibetan village, used to be the soldiers sent by Tibetan king to conquer the distant trips. They settled down in this valley but still keep its old traditions.
Day 6 Jiuzhai Valley National Park
We will spend whole day in Jiuzhai Valley National Park, which is famous for its multi-level waterfalls, colorful lakes, and snow-capped peaks. It is also known as the habitat of giant pandas, although it is very rare to ever see a panda in the park. Its stunning scenery and simple idyllic beauty became internationally famous and immortalized by director Ang Lee’s movie “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.” The terrain encompasses mountains, deep ravines, forests, grass-covered slopes, lakes and waterfalls. Jiuzhai Valley is also the home to several Tibetan communities who have placed abundant Tibetan prayer wheels and stupas, locally known as chortens, around the area.
As there are three main valleys in the park, today we will first take the shuttle bus up to the virgin forest, and start our walking tour from there.
Day 7 Jiuzhai Valley National Park—Huanglong National Park
In the morning we will go deep into Jiuzhai Valley to explore another valley, as there are so many different lakes and rivers in the park. If you choose to, we may follow the river and lake to walk outside the park.
After our tour in the park, we will drive to Huanglong National Park, en route we will Jiabo Tibetan Village.
Day 8 Huanglong National Park to Chengdu
In the morning, we drive about one hour to Huanglong, which is well known for its colorful lakes, snow clad mountains, valleys and virgin forest. It also has a population of endangered animals, including the giant panda and the Sichuan golden snub-nosed monkey.
We will take a cable car to the higher place to hike to the Multi-colored Ponds, from where we will slowly walk down, photographing the wonderful ponds along the walking trail.
After our tour in Huanglong National Park, we take the evening flight back to Chengdu.
Day 9 Depart
Fly out, the end of trip.
