Trip Info

Experience a ‘ Shopping the Markets’ food tour in Aix-en-Provence! A market day in this city is like a carnival day anywhere else, with a riot of colors and smells and the chatter of merchants drawing you in to the excitement. As you walk towards the market, you will stop from time to time in front of the golden stone facades of aristocratic townhouses and hear stories of what happened inside these noble homes. After arriving in the bustling market square, your host will show you what’s in season, explain how to choose ingredients and how to cook with them. You will meet local farmers selling different varieties of produce, such as strawberries or old-fashioned tomatoes, all harvested that morning. Taste produce samples such as goat’s cheese, honey, olives, fresh baguette and French pastries, while experiencing the gorgeous smells coming from food merchants, such as spit-roasted organic chicken and steaming paella. For a real treat, you will rub shoulders with the locals at an authentic coffee roaster. At the end of your day, you will go home with a beautiful experience of a market day in Provence, along with all it’s tastes and smells, as well as a real insider’s view of this astonishingly beautiful town.
