Trip Info

The Via Francigena is an ancient pilgrimage itinerary that was followed since at least 1000 years by pilgrims coming from Northern Europe on their way to Rome. The most ancient official description of this route dates back to year 990 aD, when Sigerico, the archbishop of Canterbury, recorded the route of his return journey from Rome in his diary. The Tuscan section of the Via Francigena is a very scenic and evocative route that can be travelled both on foot, on horseback or by mountain bike.

As modern pilgrims we will be cycling different length sections of this route (from Val d’Elsa to Val d’Orcia). During the ride we’ll be passing some of the best preserved Medieval towns of Tuscany, such as the famous San Gimignano (the “City Of The Beautiful Towers”), the tiny castle of Monteriggioni (mentioned by Dante in his “Divina Commedia”), Siena, Montalcino and many others. During the ride we’ll also take our time to visit the picturesque Medieval hilltop villages, castles and Romanesque churches that we’ll meet along the way.

Two length options are available for this private mountain bike guided tour by default : 3 or 6 days, but we can easily customize the trip according to the number of days your group has available. Also our cycling services can be added or removed according to your budget and and your preferences.

An English speaking certified biking guide will lead you along this scenic and full-of-history itinerary, while a support vehicle (equipped with bicycle racks) will follow the cyclists during the ride, providing possible assistance and luggage transfer service from hotel to hotel. A good quality mountain bike (and e-bike) hire service is also available.
