Trip Info

Join ‘Your Morocco Tour’ for a three day tour of the Sahara Desert! You will see many famous attractions such as the High Atlas Mountains, the village of Ait BenHaddou, the town of Tamengroute and much more! This is a great tour for groups, families, or an individual traveler. Come and experience the Sahara Desert!

Day 1: Marrakech » Ait Benhaddou » Zagora

Starting from your hotel, we will drive to the High Atlas Mountains along Tizi N’ Tichka pass, a very dramatic drive crossing the mountains. It is full of sharp turns, but the elevation presents us with rewarding views of many peaks sprinkled by Berber villages. Upon our descent, we reach the small village of Ait BenHaddou. This is one of the most visited and probably the best preserved Ksar (not Kasbah) in Morocco. Here you can walk the steep streets viewing the old homes and see the mind-blowing images that have inspired so many movie makers. Then, after lunch we pass the city of Ouarzazate and set towards the Draa Valley, crossing another mountainous region before descending into the palm trees by Agdz. The views become more and more impressive as we pass many villages typical of the Sub-Sahara.

Day 2: Zagora »Erg Lihoudi – M’hamid » Erg Chegaga

Today – the impressive sand dunes await us! Our fist stop will be the small town of Tamengroute that is famous in Morocco for its green pottery artisans. You will find many different types of dishes, vases and other items handcrafted with beautiful natural paints. Here you can visit an underground Kasbah and possibly the Coran library featuring very old books, some dating back to the 13th century. One of the oldest Korans can be found here, written on animal skin. Next we move onto M’hamid and Erg Lihoudi where we can have lunch. After M’hamid, we say goodbye to the road as we set into the desert. On any Sahara trip, you must be able to fully trust the driver’s knowledge of the area as there are no routes – it is only sand, patches of rocky area and eventually tall sand dunes spreading over 40 kilometers. Once in the saddle, our camel trekking begins, and could possibly include a visit to the highest sand dune of the region. Challenge yourself and claim the top – the views of the never-ending sea of sand all the way to the horizon is worth the effort.

Day 3: Erg Chegaga » Marrakech

Wake up from your celestial sleep and welcome the sun rising and coloring the desert into a spectacle of colors. This will be a day you will be thankful to be alive. Enjoy a good breakfast and then depart in 4×4 vehicles. We will be traveling off-road, which will easily transform us back in time and allow you to see how the landscape has changed over the centuries. We will view the dried salt lake bed of Lake Iriqui and the road will be lined by many strange rock creation mountains. Then at Foum Zquid, we again will meet our civilized world where we will head across the Anti-Atlas Mountains to Taznakht (a Berber town full of carpet cooperatives). You are welcome to visit one before we set off to cross the Atlas to Marrakech.

Your adventure awaits!
