The Rwanda Wildlife Tour is a nine-day nature safari in beautiful Rwanda. Your first day will be spent in Akagera National Park. The park is composed of wetland, woodland and savannah. Spend your first evening on a game drive to search for animals like giraffe, buffalo, elephants and a lot of bird species like the shoe bill stork which can easily be seen on the shorelines of the Akagera River.
After breakfast on your second day in the park, set out for a morning game drive to search for early risers and animals you may have missed out on the evening before. After lunch at the lodge, go on a boat ride on Akagera River and to the nearby lakes which will expose you to water loving birds and animal species that come along the shorelines.
On day-three, we will transfer to Mount Mutumba, 1825 meters, after one final game drive in the park. The mountain provides a magnificent view of the park. After experiencing this amazing view, we will move on to Kigali for a short city tour around the Genocide Memorial sites and local markets. We will then move on to Volcanoes National Park where we will spend the next portion of our journey.
On our fourth day, we will pack a picnic lunch after breakfast at the Volcanoes National Park lodge and head out for a day of gorilla tracking. We will first meet with escorts and Rangers to go over the safety precautions and tracking rules. We will come across a bamboo forest and get the first perception of the sound of the breaking bamboo, indicating that the gorillas are near. Once we encounter the gorillas, we will observe them for an hour before trekking back to our lodge.
We will transfer to Lake Kivu on day-five. The lake is on the shores of Gisenyi Town. Upon arrival, we will take a boat ride around the different fishing villages. On day-six we will take a tour of the town and then later transfer to Kibuye town on the other side ot Lake Kivu. This journey will be taken by speedboat or vehicle, either way the beautiful surroundings are worth the travel.
On day-seven we will drive to Bugarama hot springs via Cyamudongo Natural Forest. If planned, you can take a warm bath in the hot springs. After this we will visit the River Rusizi. We then transfer to Nyungwe Forest Lodge and Gisakura Guesthouse.
After a delicious breakfast, we’ll head to the park headquarters for a chimp trekking briefing. We will then head into the forest for a chimp trek. The time it takes to encounter chimps varies anywhere from three to 10 hours. Along the way we will encounter other primates species found in the park such as Silver Monkey, Owl-Faced Monkey, Ruwenzori Colobus, L’Hoest’s Monkey and the Grey-Cheeked Mangabey.
On our last day of our wildlife safari excursion, we will set out for a forest walk to search for more monkeys, bird species, flora and fauna. This will be our last activity before transferring back to Kigali where the amazing journey began.
