This boat tour will show you the Thousand Islands region like no one else can! You’ll board the Night Heron, our amazing glass-bottomed boat, to get an unparalleled view of underwater life in the clean waters of the St. Lawrence River. Peer through the unique glass bottom to see native fish and other natural wonders beneath the waves of the St. Lawrence.
We will cruise to Rock Island for an exploration adventure. Spend one hour visiting the island where you can climb up in the lighthouse tower and look over the St. Lawrence River. Visit the museum and gift shop that once was a lightkeeper’s home. We will walk around the island to visit the different buildings such as the building used to store whale oil to burn in the lighthouse.
You will learn about the Thousand Islands region and its history as you are guided by a historical and naturalist narrator with unique knowledge of the area. As one of six lights along the St. Lawrence River to guide traffic to and from Lake Ontario through the waterway, the Rock Island station is the best preserved. It was refitted in 1855, rebuilt in 1882 and moved in 1903. The light was closed in 1955 after more a century of service. Today, the lighthouse and island are maintained by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
Your adventure awaits!
