Trip Info

Experience the real Morocco on this six-day desert tour from Marrakech towards the Chegaga and Merzouga wild deserts.

You will be meet by your guide at a prearranged location at 8:00 a.m. to begin travelling to Ouarzazate via the Tichka Pass, the highest road pass in Morocco. After a lunch in Ouarzazate, our travel continues along what is known as the Road of One Thousand Kasbahs passing the Skoura oasis. We continue on to visit the Valley of the Roses known as Kelaa M’Gouna, the center of Moroccan roses and rose products. We arrive to Dades Gorge carved by centuries by the Dades River and spend overnight in a hotel.

After breakfast, we continue our travel to another spectacular gorge, Todra, the highest oasis in Morocco. The gorge is cut into the ochre-coloured cliffs of the High Atlas. After the gorges, we head to the Merzouga Desert to the camp, where a guide and camels take you to the highest dune for the magical sunset, colouring the sand from yellow, orange to red and brown. Enjoy the night in the camp, a night that will be remembered for a lifetime.

Waking early, we have a chance to watch a spectacular sunrise over the swelling dunes of the desert. We will pass by the ancient city of Rissani, the place from which Arab dynasties first came to Morocco. Then we head towards the volcanic mountains of Sarhro with superb views and meet with the large oasis of Draa Valley, lined by palm groves. Spend the night in a Kasbah or hotel.

A morning departure will have us follow the Draa Valley all the way to M’hamid. After the city of Zagora, our first stop will be the small town of Tamegroute that is famous for its green pottery artisans. Here, you can visit underground Kasbah. Upon arrival to M’hamid, we set to get the last supplies such as water for our desert tour. We will be travelling about 60 km off-road that will be partially rocky plains to find sand dunes. Your driver will make pleasant stop at holy oasis, a real water source in the desert. Once we reach the big dunes of Chegaga, challenge yourself and climb on top for the views of the never-ending sea of sand on the horizon. We will spend the night in tents at the nomad camp.

After breakfast, we leave the camp and have off-road driving to Foum Zquid. It is a beautiful route opening the landscape to some views that will set in your memory. At Foum Zguid, we reach pave road, stores and restaurants again. At lunchtime, we get to Taznakht, Berber town where you see carpets hanging everywhere. You may have the chance to visit one of the cooperatives there and then we head to Ait Ben Haddou, the well-known Ksar. Overnight will be in a hotel near Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah.

In the morning, we spend some time at the Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO protected area. The site played an important role in the farewell past as it has been used as an important stop on the caravan routes bringing mainly salt, gold, ivory and slaves. Walking along the streets and viewing the old homes, we get to see how life must have been in this Ksar. Then, it will be time to cross the High Atlas back to Marrakech. We will be taking another smaller route along the Ounila Valley passing a small gorge and river. The route will pass some important old salt mines and Kasbah Telouet. In a big need of repair, it is still an impressive Kasbah worth your visit. Then we meet the Tizi n’Tichka that will take us to Marrakech.
