Rasha helped make our trip to Egypt a dream vacation. While we had traveled to Europe before on our own, since this was our first time in Egypt we decided we wanted a private guide. We read all the glowing reviews about Rasha and reached out to her. We found her to be as wonderful as expected. We were traveling over Thanksgiving in late November 2016, and were lucky enough to have her as our guide in both Luxor and in Cairo.

Prior to our departure, Rasha was very responsive and helpful via email in planning our trip. She made sure she understood what our interests were and what we were hoping to get out of the trip. She made sure we got to spend the time at the places that were most important to us. She also recommended places we had not planned on going but which turned out to be very interesting and fun.

The actual touring in Egypt was excellent. Rasha is both very nice and very professional. She is extremely knowledgeable about Egypt and its history. We cannot imagine having done this trip without Rasha, and we cannot recommend her highly enough. By the time we were done, we knew we had a friend in Egypt.

In Luxor, we had a weekend before our 4-day Nile cruise. Rasha helped us plan activities for the weekend that would complement what we would be seeing with our cruise tours. She made sure our driver was at the airport to pick us up even though we arrived very late due to airline delays–she also called our hotel on our behalf about the delay. She even helped us shop for clothes we needed because of a bag delay. Her driver in Luxor was very friendly and always ready with a cool drink and snack to keep us going.

In Cairo, we had three days to tour after our cruise. Rasha met us at the airport with our driver who turned out to be her husband–he is also a tour guide, and luckily for us did not have a tour scheduled at the same time. On the way to our hotel, they were kind enough to drive us all around Cairo as we tried to find an ATM that would work for our bank. Rasha was able to get us to all the places we wanted to see: the Egyptian Museum, Old Cairo, and of course the pyramids (Giza as well as Saqqara & Dashur). We especially had fun going with Rasha and her husband to one of their local restaurants for authentic Egyptian food. At the last minute, we asked to add the light and sound show at the Giza pyramids and she was very happy to accommodate.

    We recommend her very highly.

Ditto everything reviewer Barnaby Evans said! I was given Rasha’s name by seven different co-workers who traveled with her previously. From the first email when I asked her to design a tour for two 24-year-old young women and me, to our last hug before we left Egypt, Rasha was our family, our dear friend, and extraordinary Egyptologist! Do not look any further for the right guide: Rasha Hamid is the only name to remember.

I booked Rasha for my 4-day stay in Cairo – so I saw a lot more of Cairo than just the Pyramids. I didn’t actually see any pyramids until day three of my trip – that indicates how much there is to do in Cairo.

Our Pyramids Day started off with a drive out to Saqqara to visit the Step Pyramid of Zoser. This pyramid dates from around 2650BC and was designed by Pharaoh Zoser’s chief architect, Imhotep. It is the oldest stone monument in the world and really quite amazing. Now, though, it is in danger of collapse and so there is a lot of scaffolding around the pyramid to shore it up. The site is intriguing and while there are other pyramids here – Zoser’s is the most imposing and in the best condition.

After this we took the short drive to Memphis to visit the outdoor museum.

Then we drove back into Cairo and to the Pyramids of Giza. I hadn’t anticipated just how much the city has encroached on the site of the pyramids. As we drove through the traffic I could clearly see the silhouette of the Great Pyramid of Cheops (also known as Khufu). Once inside the grounds we bought tickets including an extra ticket to go inside the Great Pyramid (LE200) and set off to explore…..

Going inside the Pyramid and up to a chamber near the top is a challenge. The climb up is quite steep; you can’t stand upright for some of the way; it can get quite crowded and it does get hot inside. The icing on the cake is that once you do get up to the chamber – where you can stand-up – there isn’t very much to see. You go back down the way you come up – which adds to the fun. I’m glad I did it – but not sure I’d want to go up again. Rasha made sure I knew what to expect and that I really did want to go in before she let me go inside. Bless you, Rasha!

The site of the Pyramids of Giza is amazing – and the view from the panoramic viewing point is sensational. It almost feels other-worldly.

Throughout the day, Rasha explained the history – the dynamics of pharaonic society – the gods and their roles – methods of design and construction – everything I wanted to know as well as answering my questions and repeating stuff she had already told me and which I’d forgotten! Rasha brought the whole experience to life – making it far more fascinating than I had ever imagined it would be – but also much more fun. Rasha is so friendly and engaging that we ended up just talking like old-friends. This, combined with her flawless English and innate ability to bring the past to life whilst relating it to modern times, gave me the uncanny feeling I had actually been back in time.

Everything worked well – we had a great, unflappable driver; the pace was just right for me and the timing of the whole day was just great.

Although the site of Pyramids of Giza is a significant tourist attraction and there were lots of tourists on the day we were there – I didn’t feel rushed or crowded-out. I had a fantastic time with Rasha, as I’ve already said, bringing everything to life and simply enabling me to free my imagination and lose myself in the wonder of it all.

    Thank-you, Rasha!
