The tour continues to the Dominican Monastery of Batalha, ordered by King D. João I in 1386 in thankfulness to the Virgin Mary for the victory in the battlefield of Aljubarrota. The Monastery of Alcobaça began being built in 1178 by the monks of Cister and is the first completely Gothic building ever to be built in Portugal. Both the Batalha and the Alcobaça monasteries are presently UNESCO’s world cultural heritage sites.

We will also visit the precious village of Óbidos, taken from the Moors in 1148 and established under king D. Sancho I in 1195. Due to its charm and beauty, Obidos has been included in the dowry of numerous Portuguese Queens throughout the centuries.
