Trip Info

Essentially the Inca Trail is a mountainous jungle hike leading to the sacred Inca city of Machu Picchu. The 45km trek is usually covered in 4 days, arriving at Machu Picchu at daybreak on the final day.

Our five-day pilgrimage is a spiritual journey for your mind, body and soul. With your expert mountain guide and Andean Shaman you will have a variety of rituals and ceremonies throughout the tour including offerings to Pachamama, Coca Readings and cermonies at the sacred sites along the Inca Trail. The 5 day version of the Inca Trail allows the traveler time to explore and enjoy the amazing archaeological sites, landscapes and nature along the way. There’s no need to speed through the stunning high-altitude Inca trail, we take the time to enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience. With different campsites along the route you can enjoy the Inca Trail away from the crowds.

The hikes average six to seven hours each day including time to explore the sites we pass through and to take in the unparalleled scenery. On the fifth morning we cross the stone threshold of Intipunku (Sun Gate) and enter Machu Picchu for our guided tour of the site.

During this tour, you will have more time to ‘take it easy’ and explore the trail at your own pace (Inca Sites, flora, fauna, bird-watching etc.). You camp in places behind the normal campsites, where fewer people camp and as you are camping at higher altitudes, the views of mountains and sunrises are amazing. (Please note that due to the higher altitudes, these campsites are a little colder than those on the 4 day Inca Trail.) This tour is suitable for older people or for anyone who wants to walk at a more leisurely pace.

Some of our treks are more culturally-focused, such as the Huchuy Qosqo trek, while others are pure physical challenge, like the epic Climbing Salkantay trek. We also pride ourselves on our private service; we will alter our treks to suit your needs and desires! For those that are aiming to improve their photography skills whilst trekking, our sister company Photo Tours Peru offers a wide range of photography-focused treks and tours too. Inca Trail permits:

We recommend you book at least 4 months in advance for low season (Oct - April) and at least 6 months in advance for high season (May - Sept) to ensure that you get your Inca Trail permit. They sell out fast as this is such a popular trail. This applies to any of the treks that include all / part of the Inca Trail e.g. Salkantay Inca Trail, Short Inca Trail.
