Trip Info

Mead is the oldest of all fermented beverages and commonly associated with medieval culture. Its origin is thought to be part of Africa and Asia where it was used for medicinal and ceremonial purposes. When honey became more expensive, mead became a symbol of wealth. Mead’s decline 500 years ago led to a hault in innovation until mid 20th century. Then, a very small number of researchers, commercial and hobby mead makers collaborated to encourage mead making and the understanding of mead production.
Now, Maine Mead Works works hard to create an welcoming environment for mead connoisseurs.
This trip is for those who wants a Portland Tasting of each available meads. As part of the tasting, there’s also sample limited release meads, including Reserve series.
