Trip Info

Allow us to introduce you the Poienari Fortress!

Many castles in Romania claim a connection to the notorious Wallachian prince Vlad Ţepeş Dracula (1431–76), aka ‘Vlad the Impaler,’ or simply  ’Dracula,’ but few claims are as legitimate and well-documented as this fortress, which stands on a cliff atop a mighty crag, just 30 km north of Curtea de Argeş. Climb the 1480 steps to the top to walk amid the rubble, dating back to the 13th and 15th centuries. Part of the fortification was built by Vlad Ţepeş, giving the fortress a decent claim to being the ‘real’ Dracula’s castle. Join us and find the out truth and history behind the great controversial story of Dracula.
