Trip Info

Savor award-winning Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Riesling while your designated driver guides you through the rolling hills of the picturesque Willamette Valley. Visits to at least four wineries and your expert wine tour guide are included, with over 20 years of guiding experience.

Begin your day being picked up from your hotel or residence at 10 AM. Drive west through the beautiful countryside of Yamhill or Washington county. This area produces the majority of Oregon’s famous Pinot Noir. En route your guide will provide commentary on the history of Oregon wines and explain what to expect in the tasting rooms for anyone experiencing wine tasting for the first time. We are happy to take input on the wineries we visit. It is best to do this ahead of time, because we need to make appointments for our visits.

Arrive at our first vineyard at 11 AM for tasting, possibly the award-winning Elk Cove Vineyards. The tastings usually start with the lighter white wines and continue through the wonderful subtle reds. At noon, arrive at our second tasting room, perhaps the famous Sokol-Blosser Winery? You may enjoy a stroll on the grounds also because the views of the overlooking the beautiful rolling Red Hills of Dundee are especially nice here.

The wine country offers many inviting restaurant choices for lunch. One of our favorites is the “Dundee Bistro” owned by the Ponzi family of the famous Ponzi Vineyards. Prices can vary from between $8.00 and $19.00 depending on your choice of restaurant and entree. Another great option is Tina’s in Dundee (M-F only). When registering for the tour, EcoTours will be happy to provide details of the various lunch options. Lunch is between 1 and 3 PM.

Then, at 3 PM, our next stop may be Erath Winery, Oregon’s largest producer of Pinot Noir. Next, we may visit the family owned Solena Winery with it’s terrific views of the valley. When visiting smaller vineyards it is possible to bump into the owners or the winemakers in person! Depending on your wishes, we may opt to head south towards Amity or north to Carlton, leaving time to stop at the Australian-owned Argyle on our way back into town.

At 5 PM, we’ll begin the ride home to Portland, happy and content, arriving at around 6 PM.
