Music lovers and drum players will enjoy this tour as we will look at the creation of our sound! Steel Pan was the only acoustic non-electrical musical instrument created in the 20th century. It is world renowned as an instrument of incredible musical richness. We’re going to tour the pan yard to be part of something amazing, where the creative spirit pervades every corner and infuses the musician with the spirit of his ancestors.
As you discover the pan yard, you will be transformed back to the origin of the steel band. We took a waste product, an empty oil drum, and turned it into a magnificent musical instrument. Recycling at its best!
You will note while many create a steel pan with hand tools, some parts of the industry have adapted mechanics for some of the longer tasks. It takes many hours and precision markings to ensure the correct notes are molded into the steel bottom and sides.
Steelbands, or orchestras, are the main focus at many festivals and events of the region. Usually comprising of neighborhood residents and family, these talented musicians form a group of 100 players.
We look forward to guiding you!
