Trip Info

The Historic Village of Devonport is an amazing route for segways, which ends at the volcanic cone area of Mt. Victoria on Auckland’s North Shore. Sightseeing has never been more easy!

The views back to Auckland city and the Hauraki Gulf from there are spectacular and the Segway ride is exhilarating as you glide effortlessly to the summit. It’s one of the best sightseeing activities in Auckland.

Exploring the “Disappearing Gun” is also recommended; it has been there since 1889 when Mt. Victoria was established as a fort to protect Auckland from the imagined Russian invasion.

Your guide will reveal other Mt. Victoria ‘secrets’ before you leave the summit and head back to Magic Broomstick Tours base on Devonport Wharf.

No matter the weather Mt. Victoria in Devonport at 87 metres high looks out on THE Best views of Auckland City and the Hauraki Gulf making it one of THE things to do in Auckland.

You feel as though you can reach out and touch Rangitoto, our youngest volcano, rising from the ocean floor only 650 years ago.
We have plenty of FUN at the summit of Mt. Victoria as we spend time to get THE perfect “Air Shot” as those who are keen jump off the Mushroom painted air vents.

You can understand why the Maori people named this volcanic cone “Takarunga” (hill standing above) as you look down on the village of Devonport from the summit. You also have a magnificent view of the main shipping channel from the summit of Mt. Victoria. The old Signal Station at the summit was built in 1954. Radar was installed in 1970 then in June 2000 the station became fully automated and now guides ships into the harbour from the Ports of Auckland Container Terminal also visible from the summit.

Bunkers from as early as the 1870’s can be found at the summit. One in particular is now the home of the “Devonport Folk Music Club” (The Bunker) where you can enjoy the ambiance of a roaring open fire in the winter and fabulous views as you assemble outside to imbibe in a cuppa at interval during the summer.
