This is a trekking adventure that takes you to a world beyond the Himalayas. You will be guided through one of the most remote regions in Nepal. By special permit, your expert guide is able to provide through upper and lower Dolpo.
We trek 200 miles, averaging 10 miles a day. We spend six to eight hours a day trekking. Several layover days are planned. You will have a porter available to carry a daypack with the things you need for the day. We will be at high elevation much of the time on this trip.
Enjoy an amazing trekking adventure on the most beautiful route up Kilimanjaro. You will be lead by an expert guide, have all your equipment and supplies portered and enjoys meals prepared by a cook. You will be sleeping in tents during the journey. It offers late afternoon sunsets at Shira and misty revelations of Kibo at the great Barranco Wall.
Your trip begins with a briefing, followed by breakfast and a 45-minute drive from Moshi to the Machame village. Your guides and porters prepare and pack the supplies and your equipment in the village. You will receive a lunch pack and you can also buy mineral water in the village. Depending on the condition of the road, we may drive to the Machame gate or walk 3 km walk to the gate. From here, we trek to the camp, which will be set up and ready by your porters.
In the morning, we climb through the forest and a gentler gradient through the moorland zone before stopping for lunch. We then continue up a rocky ridge onto the Shira plateau where we will camp for the night.
After breakfast, we head into a semi desert and rocky landscape surrounding Lava Tower. After lunch, we ascend the path to Lava Tower. The descent to Barranco camp takes about two hours and offers opportunities for beautiful photographs of the Western Breach and Breach Wall.
The next day will see us take a preferred route down from the summit to head towards Barafu Hut. The last water stop on the route is the Karranga Valley, as there is no water at Barafu camp. We make the final ascent that night. We retire early for a rest.
Shortly before midnight, we will enjoy a light snack before ascending towards Stella Point on the crater rim. This is a six-hour walk to Stella point and is, for many climbers, the most mentally and physically challenging on the route. The walk back to Barafu from the summit takes about three hours. Have a rest and collect the rest of your gear before heading down to Mweka hut. The Mweka camp is situated in the upper forest and mist or rain can be expected in the late afternoon.
After an early breakfast, we hike back to the park gate. At Mweka Gate, climbers receive their summit certificates. From here, we will continue into the Mweka village for a delicious hot lunch! We drive back to Arusha for a long over due hot shower, dinner and celebration!
