Experience the Maasai culture first-hand as you meet with and talk to local tribe members. This day visit will give you a better understanding of the traditional culture, way of life and their history.
The tour begins with a short bike ride outside of Moshi to a Maasai community. The community, near the local conservation park, is frequented by tourists due to its location and the attraction of the culture. You will be able to learn their traditions and participate in some of the daily duties.
The Maasai have a reputation of being fierce warriors. The young males become responsible for their community as protectors with warriorhood. A Maasai warrior is depicted by the spear he carries at all times. He not only carries the spear for community protection but also protection of the livestock and the water source from wildlife and theft. The women perform the homestead duties such as preparing meals, looking after the livestock, fetching water and firewood and repairing their homes all while tending to the children.
The Maasai people dress in brilliant colors with red being the main focus. Big beautiful beads are worn on the body of both men and women in the fashion of head pieces, bracelets and earrings.
