Kuala Lumpur was originally a small settlement of just a few houses at one time. Miners landed here and continued their journey on foot to Ampang where the first mine was opened. Kuala Lumpur was the furthest point up the Klang River to which supplies could conveniently be brought by boat. It became a collection and dispersal point serving the tin mines.

Of the special stops you will have, one is the Batu Caves. This is a limestone hill that has a series of caves and cave temples. It takes its name from the Sungai Batu River, which flows past the hill and also it is the 10th limestone hill from Ampang. Batu Caves is also the name of the nearby village. The cave is one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside of India as it is dedicated to Lord Murugan. It is the focal point of Hindu festival of Thaipusam in Malaysia.
