Trip Info

Put your hiking skills to the test and conquer mount Kilimanjaro, on this 6 day hiking tour! This is a bucket list item for numerous people in the world, and if its not on yours, it should  be! Mount Kilimanjaro, part of the Mount Kilimanjaro National Park, is the highest mountain in Africa, standing at 19,341 ft above sea level. It is  a major climbing and hiking destination.

Departing from Moshi, Tanzania, we hike along the Marangu route to the summit. Each day is a long day of hiking up steep ascents.

Day 1:
Upon your arrival in Moshi, Tanzania, you will be met by a representative and transferred to your hotel. After check-in, you will meet your guide, be briefed on the hike, and go through a final gear check.

Day 2:
We will drive through the semi-tropical forests, at the foothills of Kilimanjaro, to Marangu Gate, where the hiking beings. We will enter the Kilimanjaro National Park through the gate, and trek 4-5 hours through the rainforest, to Mandara hut. We will spend the night at the Mandara hut.

Day 3 & 4:
We will wake up early and hike to Horombo hut in one day. While on this portion of the trek, you will notice the ascent beginning to become steeper. We will also leave the rainforest, and be surrounded by alpine meadows, followed by stunted vegetation, and then bleak moorland. We will stay overnight in Horombo hut, followed by an additional acclimatization day.

Day 5:
We will leave Horombo hut for Kibo hut. The terrain becomes increasingly rocky. We will skirt Mawenzi peak, before crossing the tundra desert of “the saddle.” We will hike approximately 5-7 hours before reaching Kibo hut. Make sure you get to bed early – we will hike to the peak the next day!

Day 6:
Just after midnight, your guide will awaken you, and you will begin the zigzag trek to the summit. After approximately 2 hours, you will reach Hans Meyer’s Cave, letting you know that the trek is about to get steeper. After 3 more hours of hiking, you will find yourself at the top of the mountain, just in time for sunrise! Congratulations, you just made it to Uhuru Peak, conquering Kilimanjaro! Spend some time taking in the breathtaking view, complete with the sun reflecting off the ice fields. Walk along the crater rim, and then descend to Kibo hut for some rest and refreshments, before continuing to Horombo Hut.

Day 7:
Make your final descent down the Marangu route, where your driver will be waiting to transfer you back to your hotel in Moshi.
