Mark Twain once called Alton, Illinois, a “dismal little river town”; Troy Taylor thinks that the revered American author may have been speaking in litotes. While by no means a large city today, Alton was once a thriving river port and was party to all the woes that can spring from a transient population. Alton was certainly not sparred its fair share of death and violence, and it was caught up in the tumultuous strife of the American Civil War. Troy Taylor believes in keeping his award-winning tour as grounded as possible. There are no made-up stories or grandiose embellishments. Troy lays out the real history and real records of alleged hauntings – and lets the stories stand for themselves!
