Trip Info

The Goodnews River Lodge offers week long fishing adventures, Wednesday to Wednesday, from late June through early September. Your trip entails 6 1/2 days of fully guided fishing with only 2 anglers to a Guide, double occupancy accommodations, all meals, a round trip charter flight from Anchorage to the village of Goodnews Bay, and boat transfers to and from the Lodge. The Lodge is a fixed camp located on the main branch of the Goodnews River, and not a fly out Lodge, so weather is rarely an issue.

Our season starts with the arrival of the mighty king salmon in late June, followed closely by chum and sockeye salmon. rainbow trout and grayling are ravenous after a long winter, and aggressively respond to streamers and a deer hair mouse. Mid July brings a run of dolly varden, and they line up with the rainbows behind spawning salmon in incredible numbers. A Pacific Salmon Grand Slam, landing all 5 species of pacific salmon, can be accomplished the last week of July and the first week of August.

We are best known for our amazing silver salmon run, which begins in late July and continues long past when the Lodge closes in mid-September. Many thousands of silvers flood the river in August, and catching them on a fly rod popper is the way to go. It’s not unusual for 2 anglers in a boat to land over 100 silvers in a day, and there’s more if you have the stamina. Silvers in the morning and rainbows in the afternoon is our most popular combination.

We look forward to guiding you!

Your adventure awaits!
