Discover the beauty of the South of Morocco with jaw-dropping gorges of the Atlas Mountains, lush oasis, Kasbahs and the rolling dunes of the Sahara Desert. This private tour covers all the varied landscapes of this area.
You will be picked up from your hotel in Marrakech and transferred to the verdant oasis of Dades Gorge, crossing the High Atlas Mountains at a summit of 2,260 meters at Tizi N’Tichka. Enjoy scenes of Berber life in old villages and dramatic mountain scenery. We continue to descend until we reach Ouarzazate where we stop for lunch. The road continues to Skoura through the palm groves and the town of roses, Kelaa M’ Gouna. We will pass the colourful Berber villages before we reach Dades Gorges for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, we make our way to Tinghir through Dades Valley and head to Todra Gorges. This is a very different type of gorge to Dades. Enjoy a hike for an hour along the valley bottom. Lunch will either be here in the gorges or later at the bivouac at the Erg Chebbi dunes. In the afternoon, we venture to Erfoud via Tinejdad with its old underground irrigation system. Discover the fossils and places where they are extracted before we reach the dunes of Merzouga by Erg Chebbi. After a rest, you will have the chance to ride camels directly to the oasis where you will enjoy the night with dinner and entertainment in a nomad tent or under the stars.
We will rise early to watch the spectacular sunrise. A typical breakfast is served and we return back with camels to the hostel to meet your driver, shower and leave for Rissani. In Rissani, you can explore the Mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif. As we continue to Agdz via Nkob for lunch, we will make our way to the highest part of Draa Valley. Have dinner and overnight in a Kasbah in Tamnougalt, one of the meeting places of the caravans during the 16th century.
After breakfast in the Kasbah, we drive the road of the caravans to Agdz and continue to Ouarzazate where you visit the famous, UNESCO restored, Taourirt Kasbah. We then leave the main road and take a side road to Ait Benhaddou, which also belonged to the Lords of the Atlas, the Glaoui family. This is the most famous Kasbah in Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is also the backdrop to many Hollywood blockbusters. The road then continues along the Ounila Valley with beautiful and prosperous villages, stunning mountains and views to Telouet, where you will stop to visit the Kasbah and perhaps have lunch. Alternatively lunch will be in the mountains. We reach Marrakech by the early evening.
