“Once upon a time,” are four words we all remember from our childhood. Relive those fairy-tales and learn the story behind the authors as you explore the history of the Brothers Grimm. Jacob and Wilhelm were the storytellers behind Snow White, Hansel and Gretel, Sleeping Beauty and many other popular tales. They were also researchers in culture and language, as well as academics.
The two-hour tour is designed to walk in the shoes of the Grimm brothers as well as their family and friends, as we walk through Kassel. A visit to the museum is also included in the tour.
Known as the Grimmwelt Kassel, the newly opened museum is dedicated to the life history and work of the brothers. The former location was a 300-year-old house that focused on their language studies. This new location is built with limestone, on a sloped plot that was once a vineyard. The choice of architecture allows you to have a view overlooking the city from the steps leading up the side of the building to the top.
The museum tour gives you a broad scope of the authors’ life work. Learn how the Grimm fairy-tales first came about and the inspiration that lead them to write the legendary stories. Get hands-on in this family friendly museum! Several fairy tales come to life and allow visitors to participate. Remember how scared you were for Hansel and Gretel when the witch captured them? Now is your chance to push the witch into the oven, just like Hansel and Gretel! Or, how about sitting at the table with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs?
Take in the exhibitions throughout the hall and discover the archives that have enriched millions of lives!
