Trek to Everest base camp and Gokyo Lake traverses through the most dramatic and exciting trekking routes in Khumbu region linking to the highly demanding high crossing passes of four destinations over 5000 meters: Gokyo RI (5,357m), Cho La pass (5,367m), Kalapatthar (5,550m), and Everest base camp (5,364m), along with a visit to the pristine blue Gokyo Lakes, the largest Ngojumba glacier, and the sparkling Khumbu ice fall and glacier – the world’s deepest glacier. Travelling in the daunting base of Everest to leave footprints is great, challenging, however, the thrill of being so close to the highest mountain on earth is a matter of pride, earning a huge rewarding sense of achievement which is an ultimate dream holiday for trekkers to accomplish once in a life time. The scenery grandeur, standing on the lap of the tallest mountain Everest is marvelous with a backdrop of other shimmering snow-covered mountains of Lhotse, Cho-Oyu and Makalu – four of the eight highest mountains on the planet.
This is one of the popular trekking routes in Everest ever since Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary conquered first on the summit of Mount Everest in 1953 that go up through a remote high altitude pass with captivating scenery, the rhododendron forest to yak herders, villages of Sherpa people, culture, ancient monasteries, suspension bridges and enriching wild flora and fauna.
The trek begins with a short mountain flight from Kathmandu to Lukla – to start officially hiking in the Everest region. Trek heads towards the Dudhkoshi river valley upstream up to Namche Bazaar through the villages of Sherpa and green forest of pine and fir on the route. Namche, the bustling Bazaar in the Khumbu region is worth staying an extra day for proper acclimatization that provides an opportunity to explore the surrounding highlights. From Namche, we enter into the hiding valley following the less flattened and gradually high altitude trial of Dole and Machhemro. Travelling around the Gokyo RI offers the majestic surrounding mountain view. Crossing Cho la Pass at an elevation of 5420 m, then the trek passes through the more rugged trail; we walk along the alpine scenery above the Khumbu glacier moraines and the Gorak Shep. We visit the Everest Base camp through the footpath of beautiful Khumbu Glacier and Icefall – the dream come true. We climb up the highest point of the trek at Kalapatthar to observe the clear views of the Himalayas – an experience to be remembered forever. We descend down via different trekking routes discovering many interesting places to complete the trek package upon arrival at Lukla.
At the end, It is one of the best trekking routes in the Everest region for exploring the splendid Himalayan through the stunning Cho La Pass connecting to the fabulous Gokyo Lakes with glorious Khumbu valley reaching to Everest Base camp and Kalapatthar that ensures truly a different adventure trip experience in Nepal Himalaya. 17 days itinerary for Everest base camp and Gokyo trekking is the most popular trek package in Everest region that visits almost all attraction places in a more relaxed manner, perfect for normal physical condition and beginner trekkers.
