The history of the modern man can be traced back 200,000 years, due to human bones discovered in the southwestern part of the country. Join us in tracing the country’s rich heritage and culture with this seven-day tour.
The best place to start the tour is in the capital city Addis Ababa, established in 1886. A visit to the local museums, cathedrals and Meskel Square will set the theme for this journey.
The next day, you will travel via air to Bahir Dar, one of the most popular tourist destinations. Enjoy a boat ride on Lake Tana, where you can visit the various isolated monasteries which house ancient emperors. Not far from here, we will see the Blue Nile Falls, before settling in for the evening.
A short drive the next morning will find you in Gondar, where the most magnificent castles stand. From royal palace ruins, Italian-influenced architecture to the 44 churches, you will have a front row seat of history.
In the morning, a flight to the Axum for a day-long city tour will see the Obelisk of Axum. Stops at cathedrals, palaces and museums will depict why the city holds the country’s title for having the continuously longest population settlement.
The following day, you will next be flown to Lalibela for a portion of the church tours. In the morning, take a mule ride to finish the church tour. You will be in awe of the 11 rock-hewn churches from the 12th century. Some travel writers claim this to be the 8th Wonder of the World.
The last day of the journey will see you fly back to Addis Ababa for a traditional Ethiopia dinner and a visit to the markets to pick up treasures from your memorable trip!
