Trip Info
Your adventure starts with an exhilarating, 15-minute, all weather water taxi ride across stunning Lake Tarawera to Hot Water Beach. Along the way your driver/guide will share with you the dramatic history of Mount Tarawera, the once world famous Terraces and of course the unique ecosystem of this area. At Hot Water Beach you will experience the geothermal wonders of this special location. Hot water streams out of the earth and the sand is warm enough for a fisherman to cook his freshly caught trout. A short boat journey then takes you to the natural unspoiled hot pool in native bush. There you can relax and enjoy the best of what nature has to offer. Refreshed after your thermal swim, we return back across the lake to your original starting point.
Your adventure awaits!
Lake Tarawera Water Taxi and Eco Tours
Lake Tarawera was the home of the Tuhourangi people prior to 1886. With the eruption of Mount Tarawera on June 10th 1886 every thing changed. Karen and David Walmsley are passionate about this area and now that Tarawera has healed from that long ago eruption they are both dedicated to bringing the Tuhourangi people back to this area to do what they once did so well, guide and extend hospitality to visitors from all over the world to this area.
