Dallol is a volcanic explosion crater, or maar, in the Danakil Depression, north east of the Erta Ale Range in Ethiopia. It was formed during an eruption in 1926, and numerous other similar craters dot the salt flats nearby. The term Dallol was coined by the Afar people and means dissolution or disintegration describing a landscape made up of acid ponds, iron oxide, sulfur and salt desert plains.
During your Dallol Expedition you’ll join a certified and experienced guide and embark on a mountain biking adventure in the salt plains of the Danakil Depression. This tour requires endurance, core strength and balance, bike handling skills and self-reliance.
You’ll ride on off-road trails, taking breaks to learn about and discuss the volcanic craters you’ll discover. This is a great way to explore the Erta Ale Range of Ethiopia and participate in a memorable and unique tour.
