Visit the best preserved of the imperial bath complexes, the Caracalla Bath. 30,000 bathers a day used the complex in its hey-day, the water hasn’t been running for 1,500 years but you can follow the path of the ancient bathers. Walk in the Circus Maximus, the ancient Roman chariot racing stadium, it was the first and largest stadium in ancient Rome and its later Empire and visit Saint Clemente, a 12th century Basilica from which you descend to explore underground levels built in the 4th and even 1st centuries.
