Trip Info

On this twelve day, eleven night cultural tour of the OMO Valley, you will explore the most culturally diverse region in Africa where you will meet numerous tribes and explore the unique landscapes offered by the OMO Valley. Your itinerary includes the following:

Day 1 Arrival in Addis Ababa.
Overnight stay at the Kaleb Hotel. Depending on your requests, we will visit some local schools in Adis Ababa and will explore the city.

Day 2 Drive to Hosana.
On the drive to Hosana, we will make several stops in the region of the Gurage people. This includes a visit to Melka Kunture archaeological sites, where over 30 occupation sites have been discovered. We will also stop at the rock-hewn church of Adadi Maryam, a UNESCO World Heritage site and place of pilgrimage. Finally, we will see Tiya Stelea, remains from ancient Ethiopian culture of undetermined age.

Day 3 Drive to Arba Minch.
En-route to Arba Minch, we will visit the Dorze in the village Chencha. Overnight Paradise Lodge.

Day 4 Full day Arba Minch
We will visit Nechisar National Park where you can see Zebra, Grant’s Gazelle, Dik-dik, the endangered Swayne’s Hartebeest, and so much more. A boat excursion on Lake Chamo will also allow you to observe the hundreds of crocodiles gathered to bask in the sun, and the hippopotamus immersing themselves in the water.

Day 5 Drive to Jinka.
Along the way we will visit Konso and Tsemay Villages. Overnight Jinka Resort.

Day 6 Full day in Jinka.
We will drive through the Mago National Park to visit the Mursi village where the people are perhaps best known for their lip plates. Overnight Jinka Resort.

Day 7 Drive to Turmi village.
Visit the Hamer people, who are known for their unusual hairstyles. Enjoy a night of camping.

Day 8 Drive to Maruelle.
Visit the Karo people, who create beautiful designs on their face and bodies using white chalk and red ochre to be more attractive, and intimidate rivals. Overnight camping.

Day 9 Drive to Omorate.
Visit the Dasinech people and overnight camping.

Day 10 Drive to Yabello.
Stop at Arbore village, where a person’s wealth is measured by the size of his cattle. We will also make a stop at Borena village enroute to Yabello. Overnight Yabello Motel.

Day 11 Drive to Yergalem.
En-route we will visit the Sidama people and the coffee plantation. We will overnight at Aregash Lodge, where during the night you will be able to hear the unmistakable call of the local hyenas.

Day 12 Drive to Addis Ababa.
Evening farewell party and departure.
