Trip Info

The best time to enjoy this walking tour is in the Spring season. You will explore the limestone mountain area full of fountains and springs.

Meeting your guide at Piazza Matteotti, you will travel uphill a short distance to Porta Cappuccini. At this entrance gate at Via Eremo delle Carceri, you will pass through the arch before heading to Cassero. Along the rocky track, which goes uphill, you will pass a small magnificent fountain. Our path continues through woods before ending on an asphalted road. From here, we will take the dirt track which leads restored country houses. We will circle back to the paved road.

An interesting site to visit is the Church at Costa di Trex. It stands in such a location that all parish homes can see the bell tower. After a brief tour of this church, we will follow the road a short distance before hitting another pathway. A short climb uphill will reveal the Fonte Castellana. Its basin collects fresh spring water. This, along with the surrounding grass, makes this a wonderful resting place. Our walk continues uphill along a service road to a plateau. Here, you will discover the Fonte Maddalena. As this is the highest point of the trek, you will have breath-taking views of the surrounding landscape. We then return to Piazza Matteotti by the way of a different route.
