Guide

Trip Info

Experience an amazing eco tour at the Caroni Swamp. You will be going through a maze of waterways in a mangrove wetland considered to be the best in the western hemisphere. You have the opportunity to experience species of mammals, reptiles, crustacean life and unique mangrove vegetation. You may see many of the 186 species of bird wildlife present in the Caroni Bird Sanctuary.

The main attraction is one of the country’s the national birds, the Scarlet Ibis. It is named for its vibrant scarlet color. The process of switching from a gray birth coloring to red takes about three years. Their coloring comes from the rich diet of crab they enjoy 11 miles away in Venezuela. The best time to see a huge mass is early evening when they return from feeding to roost.
