The Cape West Coast & Desert motorbike tour route takes you through a semi-arid desert, along the seaside, over mountain passes and past game reserves. Along the way, you’ll meet some very interesting hospitable people.
This tour traverses more than 20 passes and will give you that feeling of serious wide open spaces and nature. It is also not for beginners as we hit sand in places. We advise this trip for experienced gravel road riders only.
We leave from just outside Cape Town and head through the Cederberg Mountain range to the Nieuwoudtville desert flower area. From there, we will go into the Namaqualand and stop over at a tented camp overlooking the Namaqualand reserve. Afterwards, its on down to Hondeklip Bay, past the diamond mines along back roads and multiple passes to the Springbok area, where we will arrive at a luxury lodge. From here, we move through the Riemvasmaak Reserve towards the Augrabies Falls Reserve, where we will stop for the night, having traversed some sandy roads and seen many quiver trees, arid, dry and desolate. The following day, we will head through a vast salt pan called Verneukpan (like Bonneville), to Carnarvon area for the night.
We will ride past the new MeerKAT (square kilometer array) radio telescope, down more passes and windy deserted gravel roads, into the Tankwa Karoo, where we will water those parched lips again at the local lodge. On the last day, we will feel the difference as we had back through the Tankwa via a game reserve. We will have lunch and ride into the lush Cape Town area over one of the best and twisty passes in South Africa, the Bains Kloof Pass.

We aim to make it easy for you to simply arrive and have all your equipment, motorbikes, vehicles and accommodation organised and ready to go. Instead of flying to your luxury game lodge, why not ride to them and see the country life in between? Just jump on the motorcycle and have fun and embrace the adventure. We organise the best accommodation on both our on and off the beaten track routes. We can also offer less expensive accommodation options, such bed and breakfasts, camping, or a mix of both!
