- You can choose between 1- 3 nights to stay in the community.
- Make your own Tarahumara Huaraches.
Experience a unique opportunity to share a meal with a Tarahumara (Rarámuri) family, Tarahumara style. Try their thick tortillas made right on a wood burning stove. Spend one OR a couple of nights camping in a Tarahumara Village or Community with your host family and native guide. You will hike beautiful trails; see impressive views of the Copper Canyon from an uncommonly seen angle and a different perspective.
Learn to make Rarámuri artisan wares such as their beautifully handmade natural baskets. Maybe you want to make you own Tarahumara sandals or try your hand making tortillas from their corn grown made from millennial seeds—passed down generation to generation. You’ll learn how to throw a Komakali, their wooden ball. Work in the fields and pick and cook your own corn on the cob over an open fire. Maybe take a moonlit walk as you gaze up at the thousands of stars in the sky.
The idea is to make this culture more tangible in a richer context as you see a simpler way of life, tied to the land in so many ways, and still after thousands of years practiced day after day. Every season is beautiful but depending on the season the activities will change.
Let Eco AlterNATIVE Tours Sierra Tarahumara help you plan your next memorable experience.
Our Copper Canyon tours are alternative tours of the Copper Canyon's most popular places in addition to off-the-beaten track adventures. We want to promote knowledge and respect for indigenous culture, its worldview and how it relates to nature.
