Trip Info

This Classic Everest Trek (4 Passes and 3 Base camps) is the original route of Everest expeditions before Lukla airport was built (1954). Then, all treks to Everest started at Charikot or Jiri; now, the road goes to Bandhar, a little further on than Jiri. A chance to experience the changing landscape, the beckoning mountains, a chance to get fit, ready oneself for the enormous vista of Everest from Kala Patar, and to witness the culture of the Himalayan foothills and how it changes as the altitude gets higher. This is really a full experience – The Trek that started trekking in Nepal, gave Nepal the reputation of being the greatest walking destination in the world. This classic Everest teahouse trek was the route taken by Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tensing in 1953. The long walk in takes you through the Sherpa villages of Solo Khumbu into Sagarmatha National Park , over some challenging passes and through beautiful scenery and cultivated landscapes. Highlights of this trip include Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa capital and Kala Patar (5545m where the classic Everest view can be seen, as in the main photo of this trip). This trip includes three incredible high trekking passes – Cho la, Renjo la and Kongmara la and the lesser Lamjura la pass; the high points of: Gokyo Ri, Nabe Peak and Kala Patar; the base camps of Everest, Cho Oyo and Island Peak. Outstanding!
