A trekking experience in the Bale Mountains is much more than a physical challenge, it is also a history and religion experience, filled with beautiful scenery and abundant wildlife. Prepare yourself for a nine-day adventure in one of Ethiopia’s beautiful mountain settings.
On your first full day in Addis Ababa, you will visit the National Museum of Ethiopia to learn some of the history behind this magnificent country. You will continue to Mount Entoto to visit churches, more museums and beautiful, historic architecture. End your day visiting the largest open market in Africa, Merkato.
Day-three will take you to Dinsho, the Bale Mountains National Park headquarters. Along the way you will stop at Awash River and Lake Ziway to see the aquatic birds. Arrive in Dinsho in the late afternoon and check into your guesthouse to prepare your equipment and trekking gear. Explore some of the park before getting a good nights’ rest.
Have an early breakfast and start your trekking in the Bale Mountains National Park. This is the largest area of Afro-Alpine habitat in the whole continent, giving visitors opportunities for unsurpassed mountain walking, trekking, scenic drives, fishing and wildlife viewing. Trek approximately 20 km from Dinsho to Sodota and stay in camp accommodations.
Rise early in the morning to trek to Keyrensa and enjoy a packed lunch in the bush before camping for the night. On day-six continue with a full day of trekking to Rafu. Day-seven will take you from Rafu to Garba Guracha to climb Mount Batu. Discover a new terrain of Afro-Alpine meadows and incredible endemic plants.
In the morning after breakfast, you will trek to Sanetti Plateau to discover more wild alpine scenery. Your vehicle will be waiting for you here to drive you to Goba. Upon arrival in Goba check into your hotel and take your first hot shower in days! Rest and enjoy dinner at the hotel.
On your last day you’ll drive back to Addis Ababa where you can shop for souvenirs before enjoying a farewell dinner with your guide, driver and group. Reminisce on your amazing adventure and talk about the stories you’ll take home.
