Trip Info

Ba Be National Park is one of the most valuable natural resources in the North. It is 250km north of Ha Noi. Located in Ba Be District, the park covers a vast area including Nam Mau Commune and a part of three communes of Khang Ninh, Cao Thuong and Cao Tri.
Covering an area of 7,610 ha, this area includes beautiful fresh lakes of Ba Be surrounded by Limestone Mountains and a primitive forest. The vegetation cover of the Ba Be National Park represents many types and statuses of forest. The flora contains 1,281 species classified into 162 families, 38 of which are listed in IUCN’s Red Book. The park is proud of its fauna with 553 species of animals with 27 orders consisting of dozens of rare and endemic species like Great Hornbill (Phuong hoang dat), Rhinopithecus Avunculus (Vooc mui hech), Presbytis Francoisi Francoisi (Vooc den ma trang)…
Ban Gioc Waterfall on the Quy Xuan River is located in Cao Bang Province, nears the Sino-Vietnamese border. The waterfall falls thirty meters.

Itinerary:
Day 1: Hanoi – Ba Be (-/L/D): Car
8.00 a.m: Depart from Hanoi and transfer to Ba Be National Park. This drive of 270 km, which will take approximately seven hours, takes us through the flatlands of the Red River Delta and up into the mountain areas north of Hanoi. On the way, visit the Ethnology Museum in Thai Nguyen. The Museum of the Cultures of Vietnam’s Ethnic Groups is in the center of Thái Nguyên City, about 80 km north of Hà Nội on National Highway 3. The Museum was built in 1960. At first it was named Việt Bắc Museum, with its functions and tasks of scientific research and educating the traditions of culture and revolutionary struggle history of ethnic groups in Việt Bắc.
12h00: Lunch is served in a local restaurant.
2.00 p.m: Arrive Ba Be Lake. Check in hotel in Cho Ra. Then cycling around town to visit and understand the life of local people.
5.00 p.m: Back to hotel, relax and enjoy dinner at hotel. Overnight in Cho Ra.

Day 2: Ba Be Lake (B/L/D): Car
Ba Bể Lake (Vietnamese: Hồ Ba Bể; Ba means Three, Bể is from the Tay language word pé, meaning “lake”) is the largest natural lake in Vietnam. Located 145m above sea level, the lake has an average depth from 20 to 25m and its deepest part is 35m. The lake bed has submersible mounts and grottoes so it is ideal for aquatic animals.
Having been formed approximately 200 million years ago, the lake is surrounded by limestone cliffs, which in turn are covered by primary forests. The lake comprises three zones named Pé Lầm, Pé Lù, and Pé Lèng. Three rivers, named Năng, Tả Han, and Nam Cường, are the main inflows of the lake. The Năng River enters the lake through a large waterfall called Đầu Đẳng. In the lake there are also three islands, named Án Mã, Khẩu Cúm, and Po Gia Mải (literally “Widow’s Island”).
Ba Bể Lake is a featured geographical science and is a biodiversity reservoir. It is a part of the Ba Be National Park.
7.30 a.m: After breakfast, take a boat go along Nang River to visit Puong Cave, not as big or magnificent as Phong Nha Cave in Quang Binh or Nguom Ngao Cave in Cao Bang, Puong Cave – its 30m wide with a depth of 300m. And then keep visit Dau Dang waterfall, Window Islet and swimming.
11.30 a.m: Then trek to Pac Ngoi village and explore the daily life of Tay. Visitors coming to Pac Ngoi are not only entitled to witness with their naked eyes the most wonderful scenery of Northern Vietnam: a plethora of austere yet interesting stilt houses blending themselves with the glimmering mist and the shinning Ba Be Lakes,but also to stay in the rhythm of the Tay culture
12.30 p.m: Have lunch in Pac Ngoi village.
1.30 p.m: Spend whole afternoon to wander around villages to understand and have conversation with local people.
5.00 p.m: Back to Po Lu village, dinner and overnight at stilt house in Po Lu village.

Day 3: Ba Be – Hanoi (B/L/-): Car
8.00 a.m: After breakfast, cycle (1.5 hours) to visit the ethnic minorities’ villages around Ba Be National Park.

The Ba Be National Park has set up a programme on eco-tourism development with 3 models to attract thousands of travellers: traditional tourism, cultural tourism and adventurous tourism. This natural site possesses varieties of landscapes: Ba Be Lake, Puong Cave, Na Phong Cave, Hua Ma Cave, Tien (Fairy) Stream, Ba Goa (Widow) Islet, Dau Dang Waterfall and numerous villages of the Tay, H’Mong, Dao, Nung and treks in primitive forest.
Together with the landscape of Ba Be Lake, the Ba Be National Park is regarded as one of Viet Nam’s most beautiful natural heritage sites and has been recognized as the ASEAN heritage park in 2004.
11.00 a.m: Back to homestay, say goodbye them and take the car back to Hanoi.
1.00 p.m: Have lunch at local restaurant.
5.00 p.m: Arrive hotel in Hanoi. Tour finish.
