Trip Info

This is a day trip from Chennai organized with classic motorcycles or private car. The highlights of this architectural tour are the model cultural village of Dakshin Chitra and the rock cut temples dating back to the 7th century along lovely seashore, in the World Heritage Site of Mahabalipuram.

At Dakshin Chitra, guests will get to see art, craft and architecture of all four southern states of India. The experience comprises of puppet shows, Kanchipuram silk saree weaving, basket weaving, pottery and a visit to heritage houses from all across South India.

At Mahabalipuram, guests will first visit the Pancharathas or five chariots are rock cut monolith temples structures built by the Pallavas. Each of the five rathas or chariots are dedicated to the lead cast of the Mahabharat epic, Draupadi, Arjuna, Nakul-Sahadeva, Bhima and Yudhister.

Another highlight is Arjuna’s Penance, a 100 feet x 45 feet bas relief, one of the largest in the world, where an entire masterpiece from the Mahabharata epic has been carved.

Krishna’s Butterball, a curious sight of a five-meter diameter ball shaped boulder, which is perched precariously on a slope and seems to defy Newton’s laws is another interesting experience in store.

The Shore Temple is located on the shores of the Bay of Bengal is probably the most interesting aspect of Mahabalipuram. Legend says that this was a part of a complex of seven temples dotted along the Sea. In fact, the legendary Marco Polo also mentioned Mahabalipuram in his memoirs and called it the city of seven pagodas.

This is an all-inclusive trip where we take care of transport, breakfast and lunch, activities and the services of a full-time tour guide.
