Trip Info
Every time I guide travellers at Orta, even the ones that have travelled all around the world, they are fascinated by this little village and the atmosphere that envelops the island.
On this tour, we will stroll through the old small town, while learning about its long-dated history. A boat will take us to the only island in the middle of the small lake, surrounded by the mountains. Legend says Saint Jules killed a dragon here in the IV century and his body still rests in the crypt of the church, a jewel in Northern Italy. On the island only cloistered nuns live, that’s why it is called “the island of silence”. The Sacro Monte, on the top of the hill over Orta, is inscribed in the list of the World Heritage sites: the clay statues and the frescoes in the 20 chapels, built from the XVI to the XVIII century, tell the life of Saint Francis of Assisi.
Your adventure awaits!
I have been a passionate tour guide since 1996 and I am still enjoying my profession! I love introducing my region to travellers, above all to foreigners because I love speaking English and French. I was born in the same area where I work, so I have a great knowledge of it, but I always adapt my speech to my customers' interests.
