I have been on Kevin Smith’s SAN Safari Battle-Filds trip and found it to be thoroughly enjoyable and educational.
Kevin is extremely knowledgeable with regard to the history of the battles and wars in the area. In addition to his knowledge of the battles, Kevin’s knowledge of the geography and the nature of the area added great interest to our tour.
Kevin’s enthusiasm and abilityy to adapt to the needs and interests of the group made the trip bothe enjoyable and succesful.
I am very happy tpo recommend Kevin Smith and SAN Safaris to anyone who is interested in experiencing and learning more about this part of our South Africa’s history, geography and wildlife.

“I have recently had the pleasure of accompanying Kevin Smith on trips that he has arranged for me and others to the KZN battlefields and game reserves. The first tour was to the battlefields in the Escort area including the battle sites at Doornkop, Bloukrans, Rensberg Koppie and the Churchill capture site. Kevin’s knowledge of the history pertaining to these sites brought the reality of battles to life. Many of the sites are not well known and yet Kevin was able to locate them with ease. The second trip with a group concentrated on the Ladysmith area and the KZN escarpment. The first site visited was the impressive Platrand monument which detailed a large number of battle sites in the Ladysmith area. Kevin once again had no problem in creating a vivid impression and understanding of the battles that took place in this area. From Ladysmith we travelled to the KZN escarpment on on to Kerkenberg where we visited Retiefs Rock and the impressive Kaalvoet Vrou overlooking KZN. The third trip I joined a group on a two day tour visiting battlefields along the north coast and adjacent interior of KZN. The tour started at the Ultimatum Tree on the Tugela and we visited 14 different sites between here and the outskirts of Ulundi. At each site Kevin gave a detailed and interesting description of the circumstances surrounding the battles which allowed one to understand fully and become part of the history of the area. Kevin arranged accommodation for us at a very pleasant and reasonably priced dinner bed and breakfast establishment that night. The second day we entered the Umfolozi game reserve where Kevin was able to demonstrate his other passion and interest in wildlife and the African bushveld. We spent an informative and very interesting day with Kevin before heading home. The last trip I took with Kevin was when I joined him together with a group of teenagers from the school where I teach (Waterfall College ) in Weenen Game reserve. The youngsters were spending a week with Kevin touring the battlefields including a trip to the game reserve. It was clear on my arrival that the tour was a great success judging by the enthusiastic and happy group that accompanied Kevin. Another interesting day was spent in Kevin’s company before I returned home. Keith Decker.”

Having returned recently from trip through Zululand and Umfolozi Game Reserve with SAN SAFARIS-SOUTH AFRICA
arranged by and guided by yourself I was very impressed with your profound historical knowledge of the Zulu and Anglo-Zulu wars complimented by your astounding knowledge of the fauna and flora along the way.

I could not have found a more professional tour guide with your comprehensive knowledge.

Thank you once again for a wonderful guided tour.

    Yours sincerely,
