This archeological tour leaves from Durban and passes through Pietermaritzburg, the capital city of KwaZulu-Natal. Explore the Giant’s Castle nature reserve, an UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will embark on a 40 minute walk to the main caves which exhibit San rock art. While at the site, a guide will explain the history and meaning of these ancient paintings in detail. Found in Kamberg, situated at the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains, is a great number of paintings, some of which are the best preserved San paintings in South Africa. Reaching this archeological location is slightly more strenuous than reaching Giant’s Castle, requiring a 90 minute walk each way. On our way back, we will drive through the Midlands Meander, where you will be able to purchase a variety of locally grown or manufactured products. We will stop at the Mandela capture site and Hawick Falls before reaching the end of the tour.
