Trip Info

Kenya has one of the richest avifaunas in Africa with around 1090 bird species recorded. At least eight of these are national endemics. Around 170 species of Kenya’s birds species are Palearctic migrants (11 species of them with a local breeding population too), mainly from Eastern Europe, Russia, the Middle East and Siberia. Another 60 species migrate regularly within the Afro tropics or from Madagascar. Some 335 species are found in forest; 230 species are entirely forest dependent.

Day 1: Nairobi National Park
On the first day, you’ll get a taste of Kenya’s oldest yet still very valuable National Park, the one and only Nairobi National Park! This irreplaceable park will give you a chance to experience the forest, grassland, terrestrial and wetland species. Bird watching in Nairobi national park is not only convenient but it is also cheaper than other parks further away from the capital. Nairobi Park has more than 400 species of birds which can be found in the several ecological zones including the dry forest, the savannah grassland and the riverine areas near river Mbagathi and the dams within the park.

Day 2: Nairobi – Lake Naivasha
On our second day, we’ll visit Lake Naivasha, Kenya’s second largest freshwater lake that is home to a wide array of interesting species with over 300 have been counted! You’ll also be treated to a wonderful boat ride onto the lake in search of those hard-to-get-to wetland species. Look out for the things that look like giant boulders in the water – hippos!

Day 3: Lake Naivasha
Highlight birds Mosque Swallow, Lyne’s Cisticola, Chestnut Sparrow, Abyssinian Wheatear, Nyanza Swift, Mottled Swift, White-fronted Bee-eater, Mocking Cliff Chat, Bearded Woodpecker, Plain-backed Pipit, Giant Kingfisher, Grey-backed Fiscal, Grey-crested Helmet-Shrike, Brimstone Canary, Cape Teal, Pied Avocet, Black Heron, Goliath Heron, Lesser Flamingo, Maccoa Duck, Great White Pelican, Common Greenshank, Ruff, Green Sandpiper, Black-tailed Godwit, Hildebrandt’s Francolin, Arrow-marked Babbler, Black-lored Babbler, African Fish Eagle, Verreaux’s Eagle, Tawny Eagle, Osprey, Hybrid Lovebird, Red-throated Wryneck, Golden-breasted Bunting, Buff-bellied Warbler, Grey Crowned Crane, Black Cuckoo and Hoopoe.

Dinner and overnight at Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge BBL

Day 4: Lake Naivasha – Nairobi
After breakfast, drive to Lake Nakuru National Park for your final Kenya birdwatching safari arriving after one hour. Renowned as the “Birdwatchers Paradise” this place will blow your feathers off! Up to a million flamingos have been recorded here at one given time. That’s a million flamingos’ people! It was also the first National Park in Africa to be established due to the abundance of bird life found here. The National Park also gives you the opportunity to see Africa’s ‘Big 5’, along with many other mammal species. The park is also famed for its Black Rhino population, which are unfortunately endangered. This park truly is magical. You will have lunch in Lake Nakuru then continue with game drive till 4:00 pm and then drive back to Nairobi arriving in the evening meal plan Breakfast and Lunch

Your adventure awaits!
