Vardzia cave monastery – cut off in the 12th century, originally was supposed to be a defense stronghold but turned into the monastery later by the Kind Tamar. At its peak, it united 3000 caves and could accommodate 50 000 people inside the caves. Today, you can hike to the cave town and explore its magnificent caves, tunnels, wineries, churches with beautiful frescoes.
