Tom Pinsard filmed this short video during his trip around the world last year. If you weren’t paying attention to the 2014 World Cup, this video will definitely motivate you to hit up Brazil on your next trip to the continent. Give yourself a bit of time, though. Brazil is BIG. I love how Pinsard manages to capture so much of the Brazilian spirit in the people he comes across.
Brazil is one of those countries where you really can experience the best of all worlds: beaches, mountains, jungle, city life, etc. It’s one of the more expensive South American countries, but as with anywhere, a little budgeting can go a long ways.
If you’re flying into Rio de Janeiro, getting to know the city can be intimidating. It’s a massive, sprawling, cosmopolitan town of beautiful Brazilians, after all. Hiring a guide to take you sightseeing in Rio isn’t a bad way to do it, but also ask for a tour of Rio’s favelas – the “slums.” The favelas are evolving, and you’ll be amazed at how they’re doing it.
Beyond the city, explore the Costa Verde Islands and beaches, Diamantina National Park, the Amazon rainforest, or Igaucu Falls. Learn how to dance the samba, or if you’re a strong swimmer, go diving off Fernando de Noronha – the protected marine park island.
